Cardinals Sit Atop the Central

by @ 8:49 am. Filed under 2011 Cardinals

Thanks to a Reds losing streak and some solid baseball, the Cardinals sit atop the NL Central with a 2 1/2 game lead.  This team had some big time question marks once Adam Wainwright went down and with a guy like Chris Carpenter struggling it’s nice to see this team didn’t fall off of a cliff.

It’s nice to see the Cardinals have that set of hitters like they did when they were winning the division every year in the 2000s.  Lance Berkman has been a huge pickup and I could see him winning comeback player of the year.  Matt Holliday has been blasting the ball as well and Albert is Albert.  Heck, even Yadier Molina is raking right now.

And they’re all newer names but guys like Kyle McClellan, Jamie Garcia and Kyle Lohse have been getting it done on the mound.  Of course the one big problem was the Cardinals still haven’t figure out who’s going to close.  Not that it’s an issue by itself, but it seems to be causing a distraction.

Next up for the Cardinals is a three game series against the Padres.  Kyle Lohse gets the nod for the Cardinals and Dustin Moseley throws for the Padres.
