Cardinals Fix 40 Man Roster Prior to Rule 5 Deadline

by @ 10:47 am. Filed under 2012 Cardinals

The Cardinals made some changes to their 40 man roster with the deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 draft on the horizon.  Sam Freeman, Adam Ottavino and Chuckie Fick were all to the 40 man roster.  The Cardinals had plenty of room and they head into the deadline with four open spots still.

None of these guys were on the Baseball America Top Ten Cardinals prospects but that still doesn’t mean we have to just give them away.  Freeman is a left and coming off surgery in 2010 so he could have some upside.  Fick put up decent numbers at Memphis and he could see some time as a call up reliever.

With the Cards coming off of a World Series, you wonder what Cardinals tickets are going to be like this year.  I’d bet they sell out quick so you need to get what you can when you can.

Tony LaRussa Finishes Third In Manager of the Year

by @ 10:42 am. Filed under 2012 Cardinals

Well, it was his last one and Tony LaRussa came in third place in the Manager of Year voting.  He was only one of three managers to get a first place vote but he was well behind the favorite for the award, Kirk Gibson.  Ron Roenicke of the Brewers came in second place.

I thought with the last season run, LaRussa might get some more votes but everyone had Gibson and the way he turned around the Diamondbacks well out in front.  Gibson picked up 28 first place votes and if he wasn’t in first, he was in second place.  Roenicke was named on 30 of 32 ballots and he picked up three first place votes, 25 second place votes and two third place votes.  The only other manager other then the top three to get a second place vote was Charlie Manuel.
