News, Notes and Historical Information on the St. Louis Cardinals

Many people have said that Adam Wainwright would be the Cardinals’ ace by default with Chris Carpenter injured to start the year. Lately, however, the 26 year old has been making a case for himself as the real deal, allowing only 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 8 through 8 innings in St. Louis’ 6-1 win over the Astros last night. The stellar outing puts Wainwright’s record at 5-2 on the year and lowers his ERA to 2.86.
Wainwright was backed by a balanced offensive attack. Yadier Molina and Cesar Izturis each chipped in with 2 RBI from the bottom of the lineup, while Ryan Ludwick continues to mash, adding his 39th RBI of the year.
The Cards will try to close out the series with a win tonight at 7:15pm (Central time) with Kyle Lohse (4-2, 4.26 ERA) facing Houston righty Roy Oswalt (4-4, 5.61 ERA).
