The big news of the day was a trade between the Cardinals and Giants. The Cardinals sent Heinie Mueller in exchange for Billy Southworth. The trade ended up being a good one because Southworth finished had an .853 OPS down the stretch for the Cards while Mueller’s was only .733.
Bill Sherdel threw a five hit shutout to get the Cardinals back on track. Jim Bottomely homered and Ray Blades had two hits and two runs.
