Not even Bob Gibson could get the Cardinals back on track. After striking out the first two batters in the ninth, he gave up a double and a single to lose it in his second loss of the season. He gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.
Orlando Cepeda had a nice day at the plate. He went two for four with a homerun and two runs scored. Mike Shannon hit a solo homerun and Lou Brock went two for four with a run.
