Cardinals Lead Best of Seven Series 1-0
Bob Gibson outpitched Jose Santiago as the 1967 World Series kicked off. He held the Red Sox to just a single run on six hits and a walk with an impressive ten strikeouts in the complete game win.
The Cardinals got on the board first in the top of third and afte Lou Brock singled, he then moved to third on Curt Flood’s double. Then Brock scored on Roger Maris’ ground out to make it 1-0.
The only blemish against Gibson came in the bottom of the third. The losing pitcher, Santiago, tried to help out his own cause with a solo homer to make it 1-1. The game winner then came in the seventh inning. Lou Brock picked up his fourth hit of the day with a single and he moved to second on his second stolen base of the game. He moved to third on Curt Flood’s ground out before he scored on another ground out by Roger Maris.
Brock finished the game four for four with a walk and he scored both runs. Roger Maris had a single but he drove in both runs on ground outs.
