Cardinals 2, Phillies 1 (42-22)
The Cardinals continued their torrid pace in June with their seventh straight win. Bob Gibson picked up the win in this one in a nice outing. He gave up just one run on six hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in a complete game. The win pushed Gibson’s record to 9-5 on the season.
The Cardinals managed just four hits but they made them count and two of those hits came in the second inning. The big hit was a two run single by Julian Javier to give the Cardinals the two runs they needed to win this one.
