Cardinals Lead Best of Seven Game Series 3-1

The Cardinals took a commanding three games to one lead over the Red Sox behind one of Bob Gibson’s best starts of the season. He yielded just five hits (four singles and a double) and he walked one with six strikeouts as he complete shut down the Red Sox lineup.

The Cardinals did all of their damage early. They tagged Jose Santiago for four runs in the very first inning. Lou Brock led off with a single and Curt Flood followed him with a single of his own. Roger Maris then doubled home both baserunners to make it 2-0. Im McCarver singled Maris home for a third run and then Del Maxvill singled home McCarver to make it 4-0.

The Cardinals scored two more in the third and that was all either team would score the rest of the game. Julian Javier and Lou Brock both finished with two hits a piece and McCarver and Maris both drove in two runs in the game.
