Bob Gibson Throws Five Hit Shutout, Cardinals Win Home Opener

Cardinals 6, Giants 0  (1-0)

The Cardinals cruised to an easy win behind a dominating home opening performance by Bob Gibson.  Gibson gave up only five hits and he struck out thirteen in nine shutout innings.

Lou Brock led the way for the Cardinals at the plate.  He went two for five with a homerun, three RBIs and a run.   Phil Gagliano hit a solo pinch hit homerun and Dal Maxvill had three hits, a run and an RBI.
