Bob Veale Shuts Down Cardinals in Loss to Pirates

Pirates 4, Cardinals 1  (14-10)

One run on five hits won’t normally cut it and it didn’t in the Cardinals 4-1 loss to the Pirates.  Mike Shannon drove in the only run of the game for the Cardinals.  Julian Javier reached base twice with a walk and a single and he scored the only run.

A decent start by Dick Hughes went to waste.  He gave up two runs on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.
