Mike Shannon singled home Curt Flood in the bottom of the ninth for the game winning run. It was one of three hits that Shannon had in the game. All nine Cardinals starters had at least one hit in the win and Flood finished with two hits and he scored twice.
Ray Washburn threw seven solid innings to keep the Cardinals in the game. Joe Hoerner picked up the win though and he threw two scoreless frames and struck out three.
