Cardinals 4, Reds 3 (66-41)
Ricketts singled home Mike Shannon in the bottom of the twelth inning to win it for the Cardinals in what turned out to be a back and forth extra inning game. Lou Brock went three for five with a double, a triple and two runs. Curt Flood doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored once.
Ray Washburn gave up three runs in seven innings to keep the Cards in the game. Joe Hoerner then threw three scoreless frames and Ron Willis didn’t give up a hit in the two shutout innings to improve to 4-3.
