Cardinals Held to Three Hits In Loss to Braves

by @ 4:18 am. Filed under 1967 Cardinals, 1967 Cardinals Diary - September

September 23, 1967 at Busch Stadium
Braves 2, Cardinals 1  (97-59)

With the pennant firmly in hand and the Cardinals looking forward to the World Series, they must have been asleep at the plate as they were shut down in a pitcher’s duel.  Julian Javier drove in the lone run while Lou Brock singled, drew a walk and stole his 50th base of the season. He was also caught for the 18th time.

A nice start by Bob Gibson went to waste.  He gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk with ten strikeouts in eight innings.
