Pirates 6, Cardinals 4 (51-34)
The Cardinals lost more then just a ball game in this one. In the fourth inning, Bob Gibson was hit on the leg by a come backer and it would eventually be diagnosed as a fracture. The ace right hander would miss nearly two months recovering from the injury.
Nelson Briles took the loss in this one when he gave up the go ahead run in the eighth inning. This was after Al Jackson gave up three runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Orlando Cepeda belted a two run homer in the loss. Roger Maris tripled and drove in a run.
