Cardinals Lose to Pirates In Ten Innings

by @ 12:10 pm. Filed under 1967 Cardinals, 1967 Cardinals Diary - September

September 8, 1967 at Forbes Field
Pirates 4, Cardinals 3 (88-54)

The Cardinals let one slip away as they blew a two run lead then allowed the Pirates to win it in the tenth. Ron Willis gave up the losing run in the tenth and he took the loss although he had some help because it was actually Al Jackson who served up the hit that won it for the Pirates. The runner that scored was inherited from Willis. Dick Hughes was very good through six innings but then he gave up a run in the seventh and a run in the eighth as the Pirates tied the game up.

Julian Javier was four for five in the loss. Orlando Cepeda belted his 25th homer of the season and Roger Maris singled twice and drove in a run.
