Pirates 10, Cardinals 8 (86-52)
The Cardinals road to clinching the National League hit a road bump as their five game losing streak came to an end in their first game of a doubleheader with the Pirates. Jack Lamabe was knocked around and he fell to 3-7. He gave up five runs on six hits and one walk with one strikeout in just 2 1/3 innings.
Lou Brock had a huge game despite the loss. He homered twice and drove in four runs while Dave Ricketts went two for four with a homerun, two runs and two RBIs.

Pirates 9, Cardinals 3 (86-53)
The Cardinals came into their doubleheader with the Pirates with a five game winning streak and they left with a pair of losses as the Pirates blew out the Cards in game two of their doubleheader. Ray Washburn fell to 9-7 with a rough start. He gave up five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Lou Brock belted his third homer of the day with a solo shot in the eighth inning. That brought his season total up to 19. Bobby Tolan also went yard with a solo shot, his sixth of the season.
