Cardinals Lose Two to Phillies In Doubleheader Sweep

Phillies 6, Cardinals 4  (42-23)

The Cardinals seven game winning streak came to an end as Larry Jaster was hit hard in the Cardinals loss to the Phillies in the first game of their doubleheader.  Jaster dropped to 4-3 on the season and he gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Orlando Cepeda and Bobby Tolan both hit solo homers in the loss.  Cepeda finished the game three for four with two runs and two RBIs.

Phillies 10, Cardinals 4  (42-24)

After going over a week without losing the Cardinans lost twice in the same day as they were the victim of a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Phillies.  Al Jackson took the loss and he fell to 5-3 on the season. He gave up eight runs (just four earned) on seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts in six innings.

Curt Flood and Ed Spiezio homered in the loss. Orland Cepeda capped off a good day with two more singles and he drove in two runs in this one.
