Cardinals 4, Reds 0 (92-56)
The Cardinals came one step closer to clinching the National League pennant behind a very nice start by Steve Carlton. The left hander gave up just two hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in the complete game shutout.
Mike Shannon provided the bulk of the scoring with a three run homer in the third inning. Steve Carlton helped out his own cause with two singles and an RBI.
