Cardinals Move On to NLCS Behind Chris Carpenter Gem

by @ 4:52 pm. Filed under 2011 Cardinals

Well, Chris Carpenter got it done.  He threw a three hit shutout against the best team in baseball to help the Cardinals move on to the NLCS.  This was one of those games that, if it weren’t in such an early round, would be an instant classic.  Still, for Cardinals fans it is.

Carpenter gave up the three hits and he struck out three in the shutout.  He needed just 110 pitches and it was one of the most important starts of his career.

The lone run came in the first.  Rafael Furcal led off the game with a triple and then Skip Schumaker doubled him home.  One run, but that was enough.

Next up are the Brewers.  Game one is in two days.  What an awesome series considering that September run so hopefully the Cards will be able to keep it going.
