Cardinals Pen Blows Lead In Eighth Inning, Lose to Phillies

Phillies 7, Cardinals 4  (21-14)

The Cardinals’ pen gave up four runs in the bottom of the eighth to lose this one to the Phillies.  Ron Willis gave up the bulk of the damage and he took the loss.  It was a disappointing loss because the Cardinals sent Phillies starter Jim Bunning packing early and while Ray Washburn was hardly stellar in his start, he threw a good enough game to keep the Cards in it.

Lou Brock went two for five with a stolen base and an RBI.  Tim McCarver had two hits and he scored a run.
