Cardinals Score Three In the First To Top Cubs

Cardinals 4, Cubs 3  (57-40)

The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as they took care of the Cubs to even up their series.  The Cardinals picked up five hits in that first inning with Tim McCarver capping off the inning with an RBI double.  Orlando Cepeda finished the game with two RBIs and Lou Brock had two hits and two runs.

Ray Washburn improved to 6-4 on the season with a nice start.  He gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in eight innings of work.  Ron Willis threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his seventh save of the season.
