News, Notes and Historical Information on the St. Louis Cardinals

Yadier Molina now has his backup. The Cardinals signed former Reds’ and Royals’ catcher Jason LaRue to a one year deal that really shores the Cardinals up at catcher. In LaRue, you get a starter quality catcher who can fill in whenever Molina needs a spell or if there’s an injury. LaRue consistently hit double digit homeruns as a starter for the Reds but the past couple of years, he’s been more of a backup. The biggest concern is that LaRue’s worst season came last year with the Royals but hopefully with some better hitters around him he’ll flourish.
The Cardinals also signed a pair of pitchers to minor league deals. Former prospect Dewon Brazleton and John Wasdin will both gets shots with the team this spring.
