Mets 5, Cardinals 4 (44-29)
A decent start by Dick Hughes went to waste in a decent start in the Cards loss to the Mets. He gave up three runs on ten hits and one walk with one strikeout in 6 2/3 innings. Joe Hoerner gave up two runs in his 1 2/3 innings and he took the loss.
Mike Shannon homered and drove in three runs. Orlando Cepeda went two for three with two walks and a run.

Cardinals 3, Mets 1 (45-29)
Steve Carlton pitched the Cardinals to a split in their doubleheader and he improved to 6-5 on the season. He gave up just one run on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts in a complete game.
The Cardinals won this on only six hits by six different hitters but five of those six hits were for extra base hits. Julian Javier tripled, drove in one and scored a run.
