Cardinals Sweep Doubleheader Over Dodgers To Extend Winning Streak to Five Games

June 11, 1967 at Busch Stadium
Cardinals 8, Dodgers 7  (31-20)

The Cardinals won their fourth straight game in a game where they blew a four run lead yet got it done in the bottom of the ninth.  Joe Hoerner was tagged for four runs to the tie the game up in the top of the ninth inning but Mike Shannon doubled home Roger Maris to win it in the ninth.

Ray Washburn gave up three runs in 6 1/3 innings in his start.  Nelson Briles picked up the win as he got the final two guys out in the ninth inning.

Shannon finished the game with three hits and three RBIs.  Roger Maris went three for four with an RBI and three runs.

Cardinals 7, Dodgers 5  (32-20)

The Cardinals finished up their sweep of both their four game series with the Dodgers and their doubleheader and in the process, they won their fifth straight game.  Orlando Cepeda led the way at the plate.  He went two for three with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.  Roger Maris hit a solo homeurn and he scored two runs while Mike Shannon singled twice, drove in two and scored a run.

Al Jackson picked up the win although it was more because of the offense then his pitching.  He gave up five runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.  Ron Willis picked up his third save of the season with 3 1/3 shutout innings.
