Mets 2, Cardinals 1 (51-35)
Ray Washburn was outdueled by Dennis Bennett in the Cardinals second straight loss in the first game of their doubleheader with the Mets. Washburn fell to 4-4 on the season despite a solid start and he gave up just two runs on four hits and three strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Lou Brock singled, stole two bases and scored the only run of the game for the Cardinals. Julian Javier singled and drove in a run.

Mets 8, Cardinals 5 (51-36)
The Cardinals lost their third straight game as the Mets finished up a doubleheader sweep. This time it was hardly a pitcher’s duel and Jack Lamabe was roughed up in two innings of relief. He gave up five runs on seven hits and the loss dropped him to 0-4 on the season.
Lou Brock went three for four with a triple, an RBI and two runs. Roger Maris went two for three and he belted a solo homerun.
