The Cardinals moved into a virtual tie for first place with the defending champs, the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Flint Rhem held the New York Giants at bat and gave up two runs on ten hits and one walk with six strikeouts in the win.

Billy Southworth and Taylor Douthit both had two hits and a run.  Southworth had the only extra base hit for the Cardinals with a double.
