Cardinals 6, Pirates 5 (13-9)
This was a crazy game. Tim McCarver drove him Curt Flood in the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames, and then in the tenth, the Cardinals put three runs on the board. The Pirates made things interesting and scored two in the bottom of the tenth off of Ron Willis, but a pair of relievers slammed the door shut and 6-5 was as close as the Pirates got.
Willis picked up the win after Ray Washburn had a mediocre start. Curt Flood went two for five with a double, an RBI and two runs. Mike Shannon drove in two runs and scored two while McCarver drove in two runs on two hits.
