News, Notes and Historical Information on the St. Louis Cardinals

The Cards played well enough to win for 9 innings, but had a few lapses in the extra frame which did them in in their 4-3 loss to the Dodgers today. St. Louis got 2 runs off lefty phenom Clayton Kershaw while Todd Wellemeyer continued to be a pleasant surprise, giving up 3 runs over 6 innings. In the end, it was a ball that got past catcher Yadier Molina in the 10th which put a runner in scoring position and a poorly-located pitch was driven to right by Andre Either to end the game. The Cards will try to re-group at home tomorrow night, sending Braden Looper (6-3, 4.34 ERA) to the hill against Astros righty Shawn Chacon (1-0, 4.11 ERA) at 7:15pm (Central time).
