Cards Forced to Respond to Brewers Big Trade?

by @ 6:33 pm. Filed under 2011 Cardinals

The Cardinals are in a bind and you wished Albert Pujols would do something about it.  Pujols is almost certainly going to re-sign with the Cardinals but there hasn’t been much talk about a deal.  Until we know how much Albert is going to cost, it handcuffs the team because there’s not a lot of cost certainty.  That makes the Zach Greinke to the Brewers trade that much tougher.  The Cards have the talent, but they’re largely the same team as they were last year.  Yeah, the Lance Berkman and Jake Westbrook signings could be a bigger help then people make it out to be but outside of that, the Cardinals seem to be set on going with what they have.

The Reds aren’t going away and the Brewers are now better.  It’ll be interesting to see what the Cardinals do in the aftermath of that deal.  Of course with the talent pool thinning, it might make sense to just sit tight and hope the Cardinals are in the mix and make a deal at the trade deadline to fill in any gaps.
