Cards Lose Three to Jays, Fall Three Behind Brewers

by @ 6:51 pm. Filed under 2011 Cardinals

Just like that, the Cardinals now have a three game deficit to make up in the NL Central.  Throw in the injury to Albert Pujols and things aren’t looking good for the Cardinals.  Things really came to a head this weekend with the Cardinals losing three straight to the Blue Jays and then the Brewers won three straight.  That puts them just one game back of the Reds and Pirates.  There’s still plenty of games left but the team is now without both it’s best pitching and best hitter so this is going to be tough no matter what.

This afternoon they got shutout.  They made a decent pitcher in Ricky Romero look like a Cy Young contender and then Kyle McClellan had a tough time and he fell to 6-4.  He gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Four hits isn’t going to cut it and that’s all the Cards could muster.  Andrew Brown doubled and that was his first extra base hit of his career and the only extra base hit of the game for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals get a day off, then it’s three against the Orioles.  Time to turn things around here.  It’s also time to get some Cardinals tickets because they’re only going to be tougher to get as the season goes on.  I know they’re banged up, but I expect them to stay in contention.
