News, Notes and Historical Information on the St. Louis Cardinals
[powered by WordPress.]
For the first time in a while the Cardinals decided to find a way to win and dug themselves out of an early 3-0 deficit to beat the Tampa Bay …Rays 5-4 on a walk-off double by Skip Shumaker.
Starter Kyle Lohse did not pitch poorly, giving up only 3 runs (2 earned) over 6 innings but was lifted in the 6th for a pinch hitter. It took the offense a while to get going but once they did it was the top of the order doing the damage. Shumaker and Aaron Miles were each 2-5 with 2 RBI a piece, including Skip’s game-winner. Albert Pujols was 3-5 and Ryan Ludwick hit his team-leading 11th home run in the 7th inning. Chris Perez pitched a perfect 9th inning to get his first career MLB win.
The Cards will try to keep their winning streak alive as they head out West to take on the San Diego Padres tonight at 9:05pm (Central time). Todd Wellemeyer (4-1, 3.27 ERA) will face Padres’ lefty Wil Ledezma (0-0, 2.63 ERA).
