Cubs Outhit Red Birds, Two Teams Combine to Score 19 Runs

Cubs 11, Cardinals 8  (8-9)

The Cubs scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and handed the Cardinals their third straight loss.  Flint Rhem had a two run lead going into that inning.  The Cubs tied it, then Joe Munson hit a three run shot, his second homer of the game, to open the game up.

The Cardinals hit three homeruns in the game.  Jim Bottomley, Bob O’Farrell and Les Bell all went deep for St. Louis.  O’Farrell was a perfect three for three with two runs in the game.

Rhem took the loss.  He gave up twelve hits in 7 2/3 innings.  He walked three and struck out three.
