Astros 6, Cardinals 4 (9-4)
The Cardinals and Bob Gibson were cruising along in this one until the wheels fell of the wagon in the seventh. Gibson shut out the Astros through six but he gave up three runs in the seventh before yielding to the Hal Woodeshick out of the pen, who proceeded to give up two more runs. The Cardinals cut the lead down to a single run with a run in the eighth but that was as close as they’d get.
Gibson dropped to 3-1 with the loss. At the plate, Lou Brock extended his hitting streak to eleven games and Curt Flood had three hits. Mike Shannon and Tim Carver each threw in two singles and they both scored twice while Bobby Tolan had two singles and two RBIs.
