Cardinals Lead Best of Seven Game Series 2-1

The Cardinals once again took the lead in the 1967 World Series as the scene shifted to St. Louis.  Nelson Briles held the Red Sox hitters in check while and a two run homer by Mike Shannon turned out to be the difference.

The Cardinals didn’t waste any time against Red Sox Gary Bell.  Curt Flood singled home Lou Brock in the first to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead and then Mike Shannon hit the two run homer in the third inning.  The Red Sox finally put a run on the board in the top of the sixth but the Cardinals answered in the bottom half of the frame with a Roger Maris RBI single that scored Brock.  Each team scored another run but at this point the game was over.

Briles went the distance and he gave up two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.  Brock scored the two runs while Roger Maris went two for four with a run and an RBI.
