Cardinals 2, Giants 1 (5-0)
The Cardinals won their fifth straight game to open the 1967 season, but they needed eleven innings to win this one. The Cardinals scored a run in the top of the fourth on Julian Javier’s solo homerun and the Giants answered in the bottom half of the inning. Then neither team scored until the eleventh, when Orlando Cepeda singled home Roger Maris to put the Cardinals ahead for good.
Ray Washburn pitched the equivalent of a four hitter but despite throwing nine solid innings, he didn’t get the decision. Hal Woodeshick got the final four Giants out and he walked away with hs first hit of the season.
