Ray Washburn improved to 9-6 on the season with a nice start as the Cardinals closed out August with a win.  He gave up one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.  Ron Willis got the final four batters of the game out and he picked up his ninth save of the season.

Orlando Cepeda went one for one with two walks, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs to lead the way for the Cardinals.  Lou Brock tripled and he scored a run.
