Steve Carlton Is Hit Hard in Cardinals Loss

by @ 2:45 am. Filed under 1967 Cardinals, 1967 Cardinals Diary - September

September 26, 1967 at Wrigley Field
Cubs 8, Cardinals 7  (98-60)

Steve Carlton didn’t take the loss in this game but he was beat up none the less as the Cardinals lost to their rivals, the Cubs.  Carlton gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings while rookie Mike Torrez, who would play a key role in the Yankees World Series title in 1977, took the loss when he gave up the losing run in the bottom of the ninth.

Lou Brock homered twice to bring his season total up to 21.  He finished the game with four hits, three RBIs and two runs.  Tim McCarver doubled and he drove in three runs.
