Giants 3, Cardinals 2 (35-22)
The Cardinals three game winning streak came to an end behind a shaky outing by Steve Carlton. He only gave up three runs, but he had given them up after getting pulled with nobody out in the third inning. One them scored on a single off of Ron Willis, who was credited with four shutout innings of relief. The loss dropped Carlton to 4-4 on the season.
Curt Flood hit a solo shot for one of the two Cardinals’ runs. It was his third of the season. Lou Brock singled and he stole his 25th base.
