Steve Carlton is Roughed Up In Loss to Pirates

Pirates 7, Cardinals 5  (32-21)

The Cardinals five game winning streak came to an end as Steve Carlton had a rough start agains the Pirates.  He gave up seven runs on ten hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals had their share of homeruns.  Tim McCarver and Julian Javier each had solo homeruns and Bobby Tolan belted a two run shot.
