Steve Carlton Pitches Cardinals to Fifth Straight Win

Cardinals 7, Dodgers 2  (40-22)

The Cardinals won their 40th game of the season and their fifth straight behind an outstanding start by Steve Carlton.  He gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in the complete game.

The Cardinals also got their share of offense in this one.  Lou Brock went two for four with an RBI and his 27th stolen base.  Ed Spiezio went two for three with two RBIs.
