Cardinals 3, Phillies 2 (17-11)
The Cardinals didn’t take the lead in this game until the bottom of the ninth but they got it done with a walk off homer by Tim McCarver. Orlando Cepeda scored on Mike Shannon’s triple in the seventh to tie the game up once and then in the eighth, Curt Flood scored on Cepeda’s single to tie the game up again until the Cards finally won it in the ninth.
Steve Carlton had a nice start. He gave up one unearned run on nine hits with two strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Dick Hughes picked up the win after he threw a shutout ninth.
